Capricorn New Moon

Responsibility. Longevity. Structure.

The Sun and Moon are hanging with Leather Daddy Saturn

At the Capricorn New Moon both the Moon and Sun and sitting together in the Astrological sign of Capricorn, who’s ruling planet is Saturn.

I can not say that Saturn and I are the best of friends, as he reprepresents everything I find…. “Difficult” to say the least. It’s all business and longevity and structure, which is appropriate as we are nearing tax season. In the tattoo business this means that activity is about to kick off and so ends the slow season. Lately I’ve been in hermit mode trying my best to restructure and streamline my life to make me more effective. It turns out I’m just the tenderest of lil’ houseplants that requires time to slow down and spend time with my literal houseplants and tend to the house and animal babies. I’ve been martyring my own energy in the Great Sacrifice that is living in the world or late-stage capitalism. Driven by the constant fear of failure I give and give of my own energy, to whatever boss, or client, is calling the shots of my own livelihood leaving me with less than scraps. Too busy to shower, too busy to eat, certainly too busy to take the dogs for a long walk, too busy to use the restroom regularly. Then, without fail, my body comes in screaming to shut it down. Here’s when the migraines come, aura and all, leaving me blind and incapacitated in bed. Or, more frequently, my muscles seize and lock up and spasm, also leaving me incapacitated in whatever position feels less like hot burning stones clumped in between the fibers of muscles.

It’s a vicious, unsustainable cycle fueled by… well, far too much to go into in this format, but if there’s one thing I love to do is “navel gaze”. My natal chart is riddled with themes of conflicts between my airy-fairy nature and that mean-ol’ stodgy Saturn. There is no immediate gratification, there is restriction, there is moderation, and a sense of purpose that drives the lessons that are revealed only with time. While writing this I actually rolled my eyes and gave an internal, angsty sigh of “booooring.”

I’m working on it.

This time, with the the receptive and active energies of the planet are being heavily influenced (I would argue “dominated”) being in this sign of Capricorn. Astrologically speaking, as well as with the Lunar Year, we’re not yet “technically” in the new year. We’re still working with last years’ energy, hopefully clearing out what is no longer useful for us any more, planting the seeds of intention for this new year.

At this time we are invited to sit down with a calender and figure out the steps we need to take to manifest the life we want to come. If you’re working with manifestation practices you might take the extra step to say it already done, but be sure to check in to see if it’s something is actually going to benefit us and our community. Setting goals on paper is a great way to start seeing the threads of action to make ground this goal into reality.

My goal is to slow down. Saturn and Capricorn love a hustler, but not those who do it for the sake of hustle. I find myself in a pattern of panic-creating and I’d like to find a place of balance, integrity, and activity. My energy is that of the hummingbird and butterfly; too heavy a weight will prevent flight and destroy such delicate creatures. They are not equipped to eat elephants, no matter how big or small that bite may be.

Perhaps a reframe is in order? What would that look like for you?

Are there any animals that you personally resonate with? How would the react to a seemingly insurmountable task?

In this world where where these animals comprehend the cold, calculated tick-tocking of the clock, who knows the difference between a job and a career,  and the ability to create civilizations, I’d like to think that they can also speak and build relationships with each other, so I’d like to imagine that these hummingbirds and butterflies, with all their knowledge of the fields, meadows, and trees from the variety of places they track their nectar flowers, might have met a stag that can lead with compassion and grounded leadership to navigate around such boulders, or perhaps a wise, elephant matriarch who’s gentle strength and dexterity can make peanuts of the same situation.

In What house does 20° of Capricorn lie in your natal chart?

If you have any planets or significant markers of any of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) you’ll be feeling this energy more. The house those points fall under will tell you where in life you’ll be feeling this more, but when it comes to Saturnian energy, you probably already know.
